yo I think people need to have their own list in life man. As good of a list that I think it is, that's whats important to Vanae and is not universal. what you should be asking yourself is "what do I think is important"

What if you don't fulfill anything on that list? Do you not matter? Should you simply kill yourself? If you're not able to identify with having accomplished at least one thing on that list; you either a.) don't matter, or b.) making the world worse.

Allan everyone is entitled to their own opinion so I respect yours. But if you hear me out I would also like to share my own. I am not a religious man. I do not believe that there is a place where people go to after they die based on their beliefs or worship, and I don't believe in destiny where someone else decides my own fate. The purpose of my life has always been a mystery, a question, a journey with no sight of the destination. But despite these beliefs I always thought to myself that just because I don't know where I am going, that does not mean that it doesn't matter that I get there. Yes I believe that the purpose of your life may well not matter to other people. But it can damn well matter to yourself. And yes you will die, and as time goes on, you will be forgotten. But for your life to matter, there does not need to be a legacy. In fact the idea that something does not last forever gives it more purpose, more meaning. So until the moment of truth comes where you die, give meaning to your own life. Be everything you can be, accomplish all you can accomplish, reach your potential. Find happiness even if it is for such a small amount of time. I think that is the best we mortals can do with our lives.

AH! i love that book. in fact thats one that I like to quote. i kinda knew you were some what religious. you seem the ecclesiastes type. Lmao :] but i understand where you are coming from. I've been going through recent struggle. At first I was taught happiness was a state of mind. a realization of what we are. then I learned through life another happiness.. the happiness of after realizing you are something. the happiness to surrenddering to to his will and to pick up your cross and walk the living Faith(love in Action). Last but not least i learned of another Happiness.. when you're living this way God begins to help you fight for your dreams and your heart (the happiness of the seeds God has planted in your hearts). Happiness is not just a state of mind... i realized Happiness is life itself. its the saddness and the joy. the hurt and the laughter.
its journey. but just because you realize you matter doesn't mean its false happiness.
you must remember. we are all on our own journey. some of us don't think we are worth something.
i know. i once didn't think I did.
but God showed me i did. (unexpectedly through times were i knew I was a dirt. i knew i didn't even love myself. but some how i he came through to me through random people, friends, and my family)
u must understand.
for you. this poem seems to go against your road right now... your journey. because you are probably at a stage where you are learning about surrenderring to and humbling yourself to God. You must have also realized you must be happy with yourself. (good job >_< you realized you must be happy with yourself and heaven cannot be found anywhere else.)
but realize some don't think they have anything to humble. some people think they are nothing.
believe me.. some don't think they are anything. So how can they realize they are the key to their own happiness if they don't even love themselves.?
i was once blind.. and now i see.
thats all I can say. ecclesiastes may be right we are nothing... but Jesus wanted us to realize that the nothings of this world were something. he died for the nothings in this world. So did the Son of God die for nothing? No. He died for us because we do Matter. We matter so much he wants us to realize that God's kingdom is within our very being. So he died for our chance..even though he was disgraced and laughed at. They mocked his idea of heaven. and laughed at him. But he knew what true heaven was.
we matter. Jesus loved those who were nothing.
the poor. the depressed. the lame. the outcasted.
Jesus came for those who are nothing. not for those who are saved. you already know you are something. You know you are the key to your own happiness.
but Jesus came to save those who were out casts and sinners. those who are nothing. to me. those people matter.
so is it wrong for this poet to tell the children of God, a brother of Jesus, who thinks of himself as dirt and worthless through his sins, that they actually matter? is it wrong to spread the Holy Spirit through literature. to help inspire those who are worthless.
depressed.
addicted.
lame.
afraid.
people who make mistakes.
people who are sinners...
that they matter.
because i think Jesus would say they do.

i'm glad you quoted the bible jerome.

my favorite book is ecclesiastes.

for obvious reasons.

i digress, happiness in itself should not be a fight, it should not be a struggle.

it should be a state of mind, a realization if you will.

for me, i realize that i am the key to my own happiness and i live my life according to my "yardstick" (with respect to my fellow man and the legal system in the country i live in).

jerome, i think you were trying to relate happiness to being relevant, which does not work for me.

i am happy in my skin, but at the same time i realize in the grand scheme of things, i do not matter.

ms. dae, i apologize if i derailed your blog, that was not my intent, but i do feel that the message of mr. godin's poem is a bit misguided.

Well Allan. lmaoo. thats the fight of this world.
to prove that nothing is actually something.
so will you fight for your happiness. or will watch as your friends, family, and others fight by themself. fight to matter and to find what mattering means.
No matter what religion, culture, or belif you have... we must fight to exist because just because you are alive doesn't mean you are.
we are nothing. nothing but dust... and dirt.
that will eventually go back into the sand.
but just because something is gone or will disapear doesn't mean it isn't worth something.
if we live for and within love..then live forever. in fact when something is gone it can mean even more.
People are entitled. if you are a religious man u should know just becaues we are dust we are still
entitled.
we are entitled to our freedom from Addiction.
our freedom from depression.
our freedom from the past.
we are the miracle in this Chatoic world.
The saints in the making.

True Happiness.. means to hope and endure.
even when you are sad. to not envy or be jealous even when yuo never think you will get what you want.
to be humane...even when their is no humanity.
It is not common sense... but yet this world makes no common sense. People say this world is chaotic. So why not slap Chaos in the face and do the most unsensable thing. to be a human, to love, to hope, to have faith... when there is nothing to do it for. only then can we have earth as it is in heaven. Its states in Luke 17: 20-21 "That the kingdom of God is within Man"
not anywhere else...or in the skies above.
i'm not saying its easy..
its not easy to matter.
but
If you will not fight for your happiness it will not come.
So Allan... will you fight for your happiness.
will you fight to matter.
People who loved you... they matter to you don't they. so.. mattering doesn't mean anything about yourself. Its through non-sefish love that we matter. Look beyond yourself...you matter to those who love you.

i am going to respectfully disagree with this entry, "messages" like these are what is fueling an overwhelming sense of entitlement that people have.

the idea or concept of "you matter", is false.

it is empty, a delusion conjured to give purpose or meaning.

you don't matter.

you will die.

you will be forgotten.

there is no legacy, no "mark left on the world"

real talk.
