i experienced the most magical performance last friday, and no, it wasn’t a magic act… it was sigur ros.
this magnificent band hails from iceland and brings all the wonders of emotion when they play their music. have you ever experienced music so beautiful, that it captures time and captivate souls? sigur ros has that effect and i feel that the right love should too. call me idealistic, but i believe that you will feel the magic when the right person and right time locks in.
so there we were…all 8,500 of us sitting in the audience, under the open sky and beneath the sprinkling rain. then, right at the built up of their last song, with explosion of beautiful sound, came the rain. it was the perfect combination for an unforgettable experience that it triggered a ‘wanting to fall in love’ emotion within me.
I am ready and open.
sigur ros has that effect and all their fans know it. that’s why they basically sell out all their shows.
vanae’s tip of the dae: go experience ‘sigur ros’. if sigur ros ever roll around to a city near you, do yourself a favor and go see them. also, get their new album ‘med’ to get a taste of what i’m talking about. (click in the sigur ros album at the top right of this page to get it).
has music ever opened up your heart and made you fall in love?

Hey Vanae:
Thanks for the e-mail on the concert, I’m really glad you enjoyed it. I’ve never heard of that particular group so I can’t speak on it, but if it moved you then it must have been really good.
Vanae, I’ve noticed that you’re open to a wide variety of music,(as most musicians are), and so am I. Since I play Bass, I listen to all types as well, but mainly Alternative, Hop-Hop, & R&B. Doesnt it seems like most of music today’s is kind of sensual, seditious, and superficial though? In Hip Hop/R&B is all about Booty, Banging, and Bling – Bling. In Rock its Rawness, Rebellion, and Rage,(as its always been, just a 21st century twist). Ironically, though one of my favorite groups, “Linkin Park”, recently released a song “Leave out all the rest”, but what happened to Wine, Roses, and Romance, songs that triggered the wanting to fall in love in us hopeless romantics?
It is good to hear that there are some newer groups out there that stir that kind of emotion. The kind that make you want to cook a nice romantic dinner, turn down the lights, light some scented candles, break out some hot oils, whips and chains(just kidding), and get your freak on.
Whew! Anyhoooo, if you like music with emotional content… If you are as you say, are ready and open. May I suggestthat you, (if you have not), check out some early 70′s to mid 80′s R&B love songs by musicians like Earth, Wind, & Fire, Heatwave, Switch, The Emotions, The DeBarges, Peobo Bryson, Micheal McDonald, Minnie Ripperton, The Stylistics, Isley Brothers, Ojay’s, The Whispers, Shalamar, Howard Hewitt, Phyliss Hyman, Angela Bofill, Whitney Houston, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, and Luther Vandros. Even some 90′s stuff from Maxwell and JODECI. I could go on and on, and I think I have, but if you open your mind, get past the “THIS IS OLD SCHOOL” mentality, and really listen to the words, I think you may get a taste of what I’m talking about as well.
Peace.
