Game Dae Wednesdae: Tattoos

Tattoos. They are for expression, liberation, art, symbolism, originality, style and image.

My personal opinion is that people should be at least 21 years old to get a tattoo and should think about the design for 2 years before getting it. Tattoos should be timeless and have a deep meaning. Because that sucker is sketched into your skin FOREVER. Gotta consider placement, aging and…’when I’m a grandma or grandpa, will my grandkids make fun of my tattoo?’

In 2007, I got a tattoo of a lightning bolt on the side of my right waist, that my best friend designed for me. It symbolizes:
Youth, Fierceness and Electric Energy…reminds me everyday to charge for what I want and not let anything get in the way. It means that much to me, so I love it!

Have you or would you ever get a tattoo of someone’s name?

PLUS

I wanna see your tattoo! Send me photos of your tattoo (ayvanae@gmail.com) and tell me what it symbolizes to you. I’ll add it to the post!

    V~ I wouldn’t get a tattoo of someone’s name.

I have a tattoo of an eagle, globe, and anchor (USMC).. it tattoo symbolizes a warrior’s spirit.. a reminder to face challenges head on and to honor country. Although I am out of the service, I am very glad that I got this tattoo.

I think you provided some great advice regarding tattoos and had a great rationale for getting one. I remember an old girlfriend, while we were out and about, decided she wanted to get a tattoo. It was a very spur of the moment thing. I thought her reasons for getting one were very silly. Thankfully, she never got one.

Personally I don’t think I would get a tattoo, but if I felt strongly enough about something (similiar to your lightening bolt), maybe I would. Also, I might be a little hestitant getting a tattoo with Chinese or Japanese lettering unless I was absolutely certain what it said. But that’s just me.

I am mediterranean levantine, thus its not easy to find a spot for a tattoo…
    :P
though, women with tattoos are a turn on for me, but not the typical cliche tattoos.
I love writings as tattoos, a poem, a phrase a famous quote that means something for the person.

Though I already have one idea for a tattoo that I will get : “Good Enough” on my wrist from the inside just to remind me.

I had a severe problem with perfectionism that affected my life to the worse until I hit bottom, 99% was never good enough for me 100% is the minimum accepted and that’s a path of self destruction.

After 3 years together, I almost got her initials, YB, which she was going to spell out, as whybe, in her own tattoo. Then we broke up…:-( 2 years is a good minimum, but it takes some of us longer to figure out.

    I have 9 tattoos..

The first (age 15) was a rememberance tattoo to a friend of mine, who was a victom to suicide.

The tattoo reads “In Memory Of” over a stone cross with a banner drapped over it… In the banner it reads “MC” his initials (in OE).

I am 24 now, and have no regrets of getting this tattoo.

All my ink has deap meaning. None for the purpose of utter design.

If cats make kittens, do tats make tittens?

Anyway, tattoos are cool. Got some great ideas for some. Maybe one day I will go through with it, & get one.

Also, in the photo, the guy with the thong. I’m wondering if dood is trying to say his ass plays music? Either way, it’s probably not the best smelling song you ever heard.

    People are a trip…..

  10. Keith says:

&….everyone knows you never get a tat of someone’s name or initials. It’s the jinx of all time! As soon as you get the name of someone, on you; the relationship has a shelf life of 2 weeks or less.

      LOL… that’s hilarious!!!

funny story…I was just in jail, thatz not the funny part….with a guy who had moved in with a gal in New York, got her name tatted on his forearm, & they were no longer together. He was in the middle of getting Britney’s name covered up. He is currently in love with most wonderful girl on the planet……uhgain! This time, the tattoos they get together will be symbols of their affection rather than given identification labels society has placed on them.

I’d like a tattoo, but I have no idea what i’d like to get. Plus, I’m too chicken to get one lol.

  12. Keaka says:

Well Vanae, I disagree with the age thing. I got my tattoos when I was 17 years old and I love them. However I do agree that a loooong amount of time should be spent on deciding exactly what you’re going to get. Because it is permanent.

I have a tattoo of my Hawaiian name (Keaka, which means Survivor) and my Japanese family Mon (crest). I will send you a picture of my Mon. =]

  13. William Chau says:

I have two tattoos myself. I sent in the first one myself! My second one actually was more of an impulse but it’s a lion (cliche) and just presents strength and wisdom. I love my tattoos, I plan to get another one probably later on in the year. Still need to design it!

  14. Anon says:

I have no interests in tattoos for myself, nor my lover. Just be careful if you choose to get a tattoo in a language other than your native tongue. My daughter’s pediatrician’s receptionist, who is very white, has a tattoo in Japanese kanji across her forearm that reads pretty much “sexual intercourse.” She thinks it reads “love.” Who am I to tell her otherwise?
