Game Dae Wednesdae: Do Good, Stranger!

Hello lovely V’stars!

In my last article, I wrote about taking a homeless person out for lunch and conversation. It was amazing! So this week’s game is to:

Do something simple and thoughtful, for a stranger.

offering change?
paying for lunch of the person behind you?
offer to tutor someone who needs help in class?
picking up something a stranger dropped?
leave a random ‘nice note’ in a book for the next reader?
giving a ride or a hand with something?
buy ice cream for a child?
write a thoughtful ‘thank you’ email to someone?
share a joke?

You are creative and opportunities are everywhere.
What good did you do todae? How did it make you feel?
V’stars, I want to hear all about it!

I sent a reply to an email from the president. I think he lets negative comments or opinions get under his skin so I sent him an encouraging email with my picture so I felt good about doing this. It was a contrary action but it made me feel good doing it. Thanks for encouraging me Vanae, you are awesome, with a big heart. I just watched the Blackeyed Peas video Where is the love…Its right here at Vanae.com! Thanks I will try to play this game all week.

Vanae I need to comment about one thing, you should delete the “buy ice cream for a child” specially if we are talking about strangers.
In this era, if a man does this and somebody looks at him, pretty sure the guy would be branded as a potential paedophile, give it a few mins and police will be at your door steps…
    Fear mongering media/society etc.
    bleh.
Just make sure if you ever go to Montreal after September (I am living in Edinburgh)to stand in line behind me, I just might buy you lunch ;)

ahaha creeepy who buys ice cream for a child.

really, can’t be that bad. at the ice cream shop..if you talk to the parent and offer to buy ice cream for their kid. they’ll eat it up.

      I LOVE MONTREAL.

i’ve always wanted to live there for a month or two.

i’ll definitely let you know when i stop by.

    Hi Vanae:

You are my Internet crush ;) I love your blog and the great info and advice. A couple years ago, while walking home from work in Chicago I talked with a homeless man. Yeah, I gave him a few bucks, but the thing that I can tell he appreciated was that we shared a conversation. That means I listened to him and his problems and a shared with him some difficulties in my life (being raised by a single mom, etc.). I still remember this: after we were finished talking, I shook his hand. I think he really appreciated someone talking to him and listening – like somehow our conversation helped him feel more human. And I enjoyed the feeling that somehow, even this 5 or 10 minute conversation really helped in some way.

That being said, your post is a reminder to me that I need to do more…and do it more often.

that’s awesome. i LOVE that part that you mentioned..

‘feel more human’ because it’s all about the human connection and breaking down our walls.

well today I did something for someone that I don’t always think about, my little sister. School was closed today so we went out. I took her to see 17 again( which was cheesy but it had Zac Efron so no complaints here LOL :D ), we went for pizza and then basically went shopping at the mall. We had a total blast:D It was especially fun just trying on all those clothes. What made her smile most of all was just the fact I actually spent time with her. I know I’m for sure gonna do it again :D

I was walking at an outdoor mall with some friends after lunch yesterday….after my friend unexpectedly bought me lunch. Anyway, I saw an older man with one hand missing holding out a hat with the “claw” that has now replaced his hand. I figured because I just had my lunch bought for me, I would take the money I just saved on lunch and give it to this gentleman. I’m not sure what the gentleman did with the money as I didn’t stop to talk but I hope it made a difference. It made me feel good and I sure won’t miss the twenty dollars. Thanks for the suggestion Vanae.
