Hey v’stars, I know many of you are fans of reading. Lately, I’ve been reading a lot of books on somatic work, relationships and spirituality.
Of all the books we consume, I’m curious…What is your favorite book? and Why?
My favorite book is: Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. I love how the author uses story telling for a philosophical view on humanity, sustainability and to think provocatively about the anthropological evolution. The teacher in the book is a gorilla. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you read it. (I actually love the whole trilogy!)

The Giver
hey v’star monica,
who’s the author?
“War & Peace”….itz big enough to hold doors open & kills bugs thoroughly….I probably should take the time to read it one day….
The Power Of Kindness-Piero Ferrucci. A book I’d read again, but gave as gift to distant friend of mine, rarely see her.
I think everyone should read it. It’s one of those books..
v’star andy,

I read sooo many books… I can’t even decide anymore lol

My favorite book is “Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.
Its a great story about journey which is life and about pursuing our dreams.
This book inspired me to doing my best to make my dreams come true. Thats why I am right now in NYC.
But three years ago i used to live in poor family in small town in Eastern Europe.
That was before i found my 2nd best book which is “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne.
If you never heard about that book i recommend you first watch the movie with the same title “The Secret”. It will change your life.
One flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest written by Ken Kesey. Every time you read the book, it engages you in a different way. You can glean so much from it every time you read it at different periods of your life and the dude was wayyy high on LSD when he wrote it.
ps. Hi Vanae! =)
hey sweetie!
glad to see yah on here!
i’ve only seen the movie, haven’t read the book yet! and your reasons make it pretty enticing to read.
well… since I read a lot of book, I couldn’t say which is my favorite one, maybe Carl Sagan’s The Demon-Haunted World, I liked the way Carl Sagan teaches to use a critical reasoning and the passion he explains science
The Book of five Rings by miyamoto musashi because it inspires me to better myself.
There are many equally great books and, indeed, some are no doubt classics. Each book speaks volume to me in a different way, but if I had to choose one, it would be “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini. It is by far my favorite book, but that is subject to change since I have yet to read some of the books that the other fans have posted. Thanks Vanae for the suggestion, “Ishmael” sounds like an interesting book, I like anything religious or spiritual and thought provoking. It reminds me of a book I read not too long ago, “The Selfish Gene” by Richard Dawkins. Instead of a philosophical view on humanity it focused more on the individual, and how we are genetically predisposed to be selfish. It also mentions how “altruism” is counter-productive and works against the very nature of individual existence and evolution (I don’t believe this myself but the author is quite convincing). Despite our good intentions or our efforts to strive to be better people, we cannot, because man is fundamentally flawed as argued in religion and science. Instead of emphasizing a theological theme and drawing parables from the Book of Genesis as in “Ishmael,” “The Selfish Gene” has more of a scientific/biological undertone. You may or may not like this book, if you don’t I am truly sorry you wasted your time lol. Also I apologize for writing too much, I got a little carried away. I think I am going to enjoy reading “Ishmael.” Thankyou to all the other fans, now I have more books to add to my reading list, chao.
The Brief and Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao – by Junot Diaz. Very historical, very hilarious, deep, and inspiring.
Stephen King’s Hearts in Atlantis, either that or ummm – Irvine Welsh’s Trainspotting.
Lamb by Christopher Moore.
Favorite book…
Atlas Shrugged. Unbelievable! It’s a great story about the simple love for the work you do, the need to become an aggressive liver of life, and how doing things for yourself ultimately is seed for the tree that gives to many others.
It’s long as fuck, but if you can finish it. You’ll know why you read it.
Les Miserables by Victor Hugo my favorite
Ishmael sounds interesting I may get it another book thats good is Think and Grow Rich and some by Og Mandino so many books and so little time….
The best book I’ve read so far is: Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.
It’s well written and very easy to follow. The subjects it covers may have been questions we raise to ourselves like: how should one live so to achieve a good life? what is death and how should we approach it? why don’t we talk about death? and why is death considered a taboo subject for a discussion when its part of the natural cycle of life? These are a few questions the book covers as we merge ourselves into the eyes and ears of Mitch to listen to his old professor Morrie Schwartz give a lesson about life as he struggles with the ALS disease.
That was a good book!
what she’s reading in the pic
