cereal makes you and me feel young again

my roommate and i watched a tv commercial tonight about some random cereal. cereal is getting so modern nowadays like tony the tiger getting ‘hip wid it’ on his rad skateboard. we laid back on our worn-in beige couch and reminisced about our favorite cereal when we were kids. my favorite cereal was kellogg’s corn pops and lucky charms. i love it when the colorful lucky charm marshmellows puff-up, floats and turn my milk purple. my roommate was trying to recall ..sugar….something..with the bear…there was a bear…we googled it..and it was ‘sugar crisp’. ahhh yes!

when you think about cereal, doesn’t it trigger good childhood memories?

everyday, it’s good to stop in your ‘adult tracks’ to tap into your youth again. so forget your stressful day. forget your adult responsibilities for one sec. improve the relationship with your young self again:

1) what is your favorite childhood cereal? do you have a particular memory about it?
share it with me or share a conversation with your friend. see where the talk takes you. i bet you’ll discover your friend’s interesting memories and perhaps find lost memories of your own.

2) get your favorite ice cream the next time the ice cream man rolls around
i always got the ‘strawberry shortcake bar’. my brother and i used to share a ‘teenage mutant ninja turtle’ ice cream. but i always saved the turtle’s bubble gum eyes for him. i believe all ice cream (vegan, natural or conventional) is magical in uplifting your mood.

3) spend at least 1-2 hours with a child (your daughter, nephew, children hospital…)
children’s laughter is the ultimate eraser of an adult’s worries at the moment. it’s so wonderful how innocent and happy children are. how can you not feel youthful around energy like this?

4) put on your favorite songlist and sing and dance as if your life depended on it
is it a tina turner song? how about that tu pac song? or…abba’s dancing queen tune that triggers great memories for you? do it up! you’ll kick up a sweat and smile so much. i know i do!

what was the last thing you did that made you feel young again?

Questions of the dae for Vanae:

    1. Favorite cereal? Lucky Charms; I still eat them today! I steal them from my niece. Hey, just because you’re in the 30 plus club doesn’t mean you can’t get your sweets on too. Particular memory? Watching Saturday morning cartoons and eating Lucky Charms on sleepovers at my cousins house. I remember we used to get in trouble because we’d get the giggles watching cartoons and would spit them all over the floor from laughing.

    2. Favorite ice cream off the truck the ice cream man used to make us chase for HALF A BLOCK?! That GINORMOUS tri-colored ice pop, which name I can’t remember. But it sure was refreshing after that silly @$$ ice cream man made us chase him half a block, on a hot summer’s day to get it.

3 and 4. Spending time with kids? Fortunately, I get to do that daily! My sister and I bought a condo and live together; she has a six year old, and I’m just a big kid anyway, so we have alot of fun together! We do the music, dance thing alot, I show her some of my old school break dance moves.

    5. The last thing I did to make me feel young again was rockin’ out at the Weezer, Angles and Airwaves; Tokyo Police Club concert at San Jose State! There was nothing but a bunch of college kids there, of course, but I had a blast! Being a musician who likes to keep up with the music scene, why not?!

So true Vanae… I once went to a party and the host hired a Good Humor truckdriver to drive around the compound just for show and to make people re-live fresh energy from their childhood past… Funny thing me and my buddy paid the driver to do a beer run for us lol… Fav cereal Rice Chex, off the ice cream truck… Toasted almond. Great blog V!! All the best, Steve

yo steve, what a neat idea of the good humor truck. a couple of years ago, when i was in austin for SXSW, i met ‘the ice cream man’. the guy’s purpose in life was to go around the country and give out free ice cream for positivity.

    it was awesome!
